HTC has announced that its new Windows-based phone, the HD2, will be launched in Europe this month. The handset, which has a 4.3-inch capacitive touch display, is equipped with a wide range of functions designed to make it feel as personal to the user as possible.
These include a localised weather forecast, the ability to sort communications by contact regardless of whether messages have come via text, email or Facebook, a Twitter application and the ability to download applications from Windows Marketplace for Mobile. It also has a number of features which may prove useful to business users, such as a larger than normal touchscreen keyboard for easy typing and the ability to resize documents and websites. Microsoft's chief executive officer Steve Ballmer predicted that the HD2 would prove to be one of the best Windows mobile phones.
"The HTC HD2 shows what's possible through our close partnership with HTC and it breaks new ground for Windows phones by delivering a beautiful multi-touchscreen that people will love," he said. HTC will be hoping the HD2 can replicate the success of its Hero handset, which was named Gadget of the Year at the 2009 T3 Gadget Awards. Is the HTC HD2 a rival for the iPhone?
