Blur's Glastonbury appearance this summer has been named the best headline performance of the year. The band's first appearance at the Somerset farm since 1998 scooped the prize at the UK festival awards on Thursday. Blur frontman Damon Albarn also won "festival fitty" at the prize ceremony at London's O2 arena, while Lily Allen was awarded the female version of the prize.

Oprah Winfrey, the highest-paid TV personality in the US, is set to announce her famous chatshow is due to come to an end in under two years. Reports suggest the 55-year-old told staff in Chicago the Oprah Winfrey Show would end in September 2011, during its 25th season. The popular talkshow was first aired in the US in 1986 and has gone on to become one of the most-watched and influential entertainment shows on air.

Singer Liam Gallagher has confirmed he is recording with the remaining members of Oasis to create a new band and album for 2010. The 37-year-old was blamed by his older brother Noel for the break-up of Oasis earlier this year, with Noel leaving the Mancunian band while touring in France in July. The elder Gallagher is thought to be working on his own solo material and Liam has now confirmed he plans to record new songs with former Oasis members Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Zak Starkey.
