Wii Fit Plus receives backing of DoH

Nintendo's newest exercise game Wii Fit Plus has received a recommendation from the Department of Health (DoH). The Japanese gamemaker has been given permission for the title to carry the logo of the NHS Change4Life programme, which is dedicated to getting people to eat and live more healthily. This makes Wii Fit Plus the first videogame ever to receive approval from the government's health department.

When it launches later this week, the fitness sequel will offer gamers a range of new modes and options, including customisable exercise programmes and activities such as skateboarding. A DoH spokesman said: "Active video games, where kids need to jump up and down or dance about as part of the game, are a great way to get kids moving." The first Wii Fit has proven a huge global hit since its 2007 Japanese release, with sales of the title exceeding 22 million units worldwide.
