Jenson Button has signed a multi-year contract with McLaren that will see him team up with fellow Briton Lewis Hamilton for the 2010 formula one season. The reigning world champion has signed with the Woking-based squad after turning his back on Mercedes GP (formerly Brawn GP) when protracted contract negotiations failed to yield a satisfactory agreement. MCC rules out Lord's renaming
MCC chief executive Keith Bradshaw has vehemently denied speculation that the owners of Lord's are considering selling the naming rights for the ground, saying it "is not an option". Reports in this morning's newspapers suggested the MCC were looking into the prospect of raising revenue for a £400 million redevelopment by encouraging a bidding war to sponsor the famous stadium. But Bradshaw has categorically ruled out the prospect, saying even selling naming rights for the individual stands was out of the question. Wed, 18 Nov 2009 16:00:00 |

Nursing students quitting courses
Nursing students are quitting their courses despite the government setting new targets for all nurses to have degrees. Figures obtained by the Nursing Standard show students are already leaving graduate level programmes, costing the taxpayer millions of pounds a year. Nursing Standard claims the Department of Health (DoH) is "so worried about the problem it has ordered an annual report to be prepared on quit rates from university nursing courses, but it refuses to publish the findings". The magazine therefore obtained a Freedom of Information Act request, detailing the most recent completed degree programmes in adult nursing from England's ten strategic health authorities. Hershey, Ferrero plot rival Cadbury bid
Hershey and Ferrero are reported to have held preliminary talks considering a joint bid for Cadbury. US and UN criticise new Israeli settlements
Washington has criticised the decision by the Israeli government to green-light the construction of hundreds of new homes in a disputed neighbourhood in East Jerusalem. Israeli's interior ministry approved plans for around 900 housing units to be built in Gilo, an area captured by Israel in the 1967 six-day war and later annexed to the Jerusalem municipality. Under international law, all Israeli settlements built on occupied land are illegal. Wed, 18 Nov 2009 12:30:00 |

Mobile phone staff sold millions of records
Staff at one of the UK's major mobile phone companies sold on millions of records of thousands of customers, the information watchdog has said today. The Information Commissioner Christopher Graham said there is new evidence which shows that a deterrent custodial sentence is required to stop the trade in unlawful personal information. Mr Graham said investigators had been working with a mobile telephone company after the firm suggested employees allegedly sold details relating to customers' mobile phone contracts, including their contract expiry dates. The company has not been named, in order not to prejudice a future trial. Wed, 18 Nov 2009 12:30:00 |
