Porsche announces addition to Boxster range

The new Porsche Boxster Spyder has a top speed of 166mph

Porsche has unveiled a new lightweight version of its Boxster inspired by a 1950s sportscar. The Boxster Spyder weighs 80kg less than existing versions of the mid-engined roadster and is equipped with a Sports Chrono Package, helping to give it added performance. Its 3.4-litre engine generates 320bhp and the car is capable of reaching 62mph from a standing start in just 4.8 seconds, and of accelerating up to a top speed of 166mph with the roof down.

The Porsche Boxster Spyder also boasts a fuel economy figure of 30.4mpg using the New European Driving Cycle measure.

Inspired by the classic 550 Spyder, which won Porsche scores of races following its launch in 1953, the new roadster will go on sale in the UK in February 2010, with a price tag of £44,643. Before then it will be showcased at the LA Auto Show, which takes place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from December 4 - 13 2009. Is a Porsche your dream drive?
