Adlington rep criticises Frankie Boyle joke

The agent of Olympian Rebecca Adlington has said the BBC should have taken tougher action over comedian Frankie Boyle's remarks about the swimmer. The BBC Trust ruled Boyle had been in breach of editorial guidelines when, while appearing on panel show Mock the Week, he joked that Adlington looked like "someone who's looking at themselves in the back of a spoon". Some 75 viewers complained about the Scottish stand-up's comments and the BBC Trust later ruled the personal comments about Adlington had been unjustified as she had not courted publicity or celebrity status since her gold medal-winning Olympic success in 2008.
However, the swimmer's spokesperson said the "rebuke" over Boyle's comments had not been sufficient. "By giving Frankie Boyle a rebuke they fail to discourage others from doing the same in future," Rob Woodhouse remarked. "That's why we have questioned the BBC Trust's actions."
The BBC Trust have confirmed the receipt of a letter from Mr Woodhouse and said the governing body would respond in due course. Speaking last week, Boyle denied he is leaving Mock the Week after the BBC Trust's response to his comments about Adlington's appearance. "It's a question of how boring people want TV to be now," he told the Mirror.
"People aren't going to be happy until you boil it down to just cooking and f***ing property shows. F***ing hell, it's so f***ing boring already! Those jokes weren't that risqué anyway. There was no malice in them."
