The late Jade Goody has been awarded a posthumous prize at the Inspiration awards for women in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. The Big Brother contestant's award was accepted by her friend and publicist Max Clifford at a London ceremony on Thursday evening. "Jade wasn't really much of a person for awards," he told the audience.
"She was just an ordinary girl who was extraordinary." Mother-of-two Goody died in March this year after battling cervical cancer but Clifford said her passing would prevent other young women from becoming victims of the disease. "The message she gave out was, don't let what happened to me happen to you," he added.
"She achieved what the medical profession and politicians could not achieve... most stars are totally selfish... she was all about other people."
Fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood was given a lifetime achievement award, accepted on her behalf by model Pixie Geldof while actress Joanna Lumley was the winner of two prizes, including an inspirational celebrity award for her campaigning on behalf of the Gurkhas. First Lady Michelle Obama was named the inspirational international woman of 2009.
