Harry Potter actors describe electric atmosphere on set of final film

Despite the Harry Potter series nearing its close, actors in the films have said there is an "electric" atmosphere on set. The final films in the franchise, based on JK Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, are set for release in November 2010 and July 2011 and production work is "about halfway through", according to Evanna Lynch, who plays Hogwarts student Luna Lovegood. She and co-star Matthew Lewis - who plays Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films - were speaking at the launch of a competition offering fans the chance to win a role in the final movies.

The pair released 1,000 black balloons from London's Millennium bridge, with each ballon featuring a competition code that allows the bearer into a prize draw. The winning entrant will then appear as a moving picture on the wall of Hogwarts school. "The winner will be able to see all the stuff behind the scenes," Lewis explained.

"People always assume the bigger sets are all computer-generated, but a lot of them are actually there." The competition is only open to over-18s, but Lewis said the Harry Potter series is not only geared at children. "Obviously we started off as primarily a kids' film and it's a shame that it's over 18s, but we've got a massive demographic now ," he told the BBC.

"The films are accessible to all ages. There's a lot of people now that can really get into the films and are really going to enjoy this prize. "

Lewis, 20, has starred in every film in the series since 2001's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, but said the mood on the set for the concluding movies has been surprising. "You wouldn't be able to tell it was the last in the series because the atmosphere is electric - everybody is having such a great time," he added. "I've done a few days which went fantastically."
