Debate: Are British men romantic?
Published: Fri, 17 Jul 2009 10:02:42
British men are up to ten per cent less likely to perform a romantic act than those from other countries, according to research by professor Richard Wiseman. The study, which was based on the opinions of 3,500 women from around the world, also revealed that 45 per cent of respondents had never been offered a coat to shield them in cold weather. Perceptions of romantic acts were also tested, for which men were included in the poll.
This garnered that men and women value gestures differently with 22 per cent of women giving top marks to 'run her a relaxing bath after she has had a bad day at work', while only eight per cent of men believed their partner would give this a high score. However, the results have been countered by Chris Bell, deputy editor of men's magazine FHM, who believes that males are the more romantic sex. "British girls seem to expect to be romanced and judge a man on how thoughtful, sensitive or generous he is," he said.
"But it's a rare woman who'll take the lead and organise something off her own bat at least early on in relationships."
