Comedy hit The Hangover earns record opening in UK

Bachelor party film The Hangover has achieved the biggest comedy opening of the year in the UK. The Warner Bros movie, which has topped the US box office charts for two weeks, earned an impressive £3.19 million in its first weekend on release to debut in the UK's number one spot.
Starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, The Hangover sees a trio of friends waking up in Las Vegas on the morning after a bachelor party with the groom missing and no memory of the night before. Horror remake The Last House on the Left was the next highest new entry in the UK, opening in sixth while Ken Loach's Palme d'Or-nominated Looking For Eric took a marginally disappointing £366,242 to open in seventh. However, it is hoped the film's positive critical reception and word-of-mouth will help the comedy-drama's performance next week.
The biggest disappointment of the weekend came in the shape of John Woo's military epic Red Cliff, which took only £152,288 to enter the chart in 11th. Horror-comedy Doghouse and ecological documentary The End of the Line were the other major new entries, in 13th and 15th, respectively. The top ten films at the UK box office are: (last week's position)
1 The Hangover - £3.19 million (-)
2 Terminator Salvation - £1.95 million (1)
3 Night at the Museum 2 - £1.08 million (2)

5 Angels and Demons - £514,507 (4)
6 Star Trek - £405,242 (5)
