Future Motorola phones will support multitouch

Motorola has revealed that it plans to include multitouch-compatible displays on its upcoming mobile devices. The company's chief executive officer Sanjay Jha told Laptop magazine that it will be looking to incorporate the feature on the "majority" of its future phones due to consumer demand. Multitouch capability is a key selling point of Apple's popular iPhone, while the feature was a notable absence from the tech specifications of the recently-launched Google Nexus One.

Mr Jha said the inclusion of multitouch was a "complex" issue for a number of technical and non-technical reasons, but stated that it is a key objective for Motorola phones in the future. He said: "I think you'll see us being proactive on multitouch because the user feedback on multitouch is very good." Last week, the company unveiled its newest smartphone, the Backflip, which is optimised for multimedia functions such as social networking.

Do you think multitouch is a deal-breaker when selecting a smartphone?
