Could Spotify benefit the iPhone?

Spotify, the live music streaming tool, should appear on the iPhone, an industry expert has suggested. The company announced last week that it has approached Apple over a possible deal which would enable iPhone 3GS customers to use its services However, it is not yet clear as to whether or not Apple will allow the app to be used on the device, in light of the fact that it offers competition to the company's own music download system iTunes.
Tom Newton, lead content writer for mobile-phones.co.uk, believes that Apple should back the proposal.
He said: "A Spotify app in the App Store would only broaden the appeal of the iPhone. The demand for having access to Spotify playlists on a mobile device such as the iPhone would outstrip any potential revenue lost from iTunes music downloads."
According to research by GfK Retail and Technology, £2.36 million worth of mobile music downloads, on all formats, were purchased in Britain during the month of May.
Do you think Apple should allow Spotify to invade the iPhone?
