Social media sites could lead mobile web revolution

Mobile internet technology could take flight with the help of popular social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. That is according to industry expert Tim Gibbon of the Social Media Portal, who believes that mobile internet will become more "commonplace" in the near future and attributes its rise to the social networking phenomenon. "It's social media that will be the catalyst in making users take their journey from web to a more mobile world," he said.

Mr Gibbon went on to note that using the internet on-the-go will become "familiar and comfortable to everyday mobile users in line with internet". His comments come after Industry analyst CCS Insight released a report which revealed that a third of youngsters now use their mobile phone to access their Facebook and Twitter accounts. It also showed that men are more likely to use their mobile to surf the web and that many users, especially the young, expect content such as MP3s and videos to be free.

The data was garnered from a survey of 1,000 adults between the ages of 16 and 35. Do you use your mobile to update your networking accounts?
