A religious officiary in the US has broken with tradition and welcomed weapons into church. Ken Pagano, pastor at the New Bethel Church in Kentucky, urged his congregation to bring unloaded handguns to a service on Saturday (June 27th) to celebrate the right to bear arms. According to AP, more than 200 people were present at the Open Carry Celebration, which was arranged in response to fears that the Obama administration will repeal a law that gives US citizens the right to carry guns.

An attic can be a treasure trove of lost goodies Liverpool man forgets £100k paintings

An artwork collection which is thought to be worth £100,000 was left forgotten in an attic for two decades. Paintings and drawings by German artist Erich Wolfsfeld have been stored at the Liverpool home of his stepson Dr Max Block for 20 years. However, the retired research chemist did not remember that they were in his possession until recently when he decided to move house.

When Sonya and William Mckerron lost their dog Lucy earlier this year, they thought that the beloved Collie had gone forever. Lucy went missing from the couple's home in Redruth, Cornwall on February 6th while Mrs Mckerron was in the loo, the Daily Telegraph reported. She and her husband searched "high and low" for their pet, but to no avail - Lucy appeared to have gone for good.

A man from New Zealand had to be rescued by the fire brigade after getting stuck in a tumble dryer while naked from the waist down. Dave Chapman had been enjoying a drink with pals on Saturday night (June 20th) when he decided to change his outfit, the Timaru Herald reported. Mr Chapman told the newspaper that he thought his pants were in the clothes dryer so he went to investigate.

Criminals in Mexico have found the authorities to be rather snappy when dealing with drug smugglers. Naval officers in the South American country have seized more than a tonne of cocaine that was hidden inside frozen sharks. Tests confirmed that powder found inside the carcasses of 20 fish aboard a vessel in Yucatan, Mexico was in fact cocaine.

A teenager in Belgium is suing a tattoo artist after having 56 black stars permanently drawn on her face. Kimberley Vlaeminck, 18, claimed that she asked for a tattoo featuring just three stars but fell asleep during the procedure and woke up to find an entire star field on the left side of her face. The body art, which cost around 55 euros, could now cost up to 10,000 euros to rectify and the youngster and her family are suing the artist for damages.

A grandfather from Bolton has netted close to £25 million in the EuroMillions lottery. Septuagenarian Brian Caswell was celebrating on Friday night (June 12th) after matching five numbers and two lucky star numbers in the lottery draw. The huge cash prize makes the grandpa and his wife Joan the third biggest lottery winners ever in Britain.
