UK army mourns another death in Afghanistan as explosion claims life of UK soldier in Helmand

The British army is mourning another death in Afghanistan after an explosion claimed the life of a UK soldier in Helmand province. Two days after five soldiers were killed by a rogue policeman at a military checkpoint, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said a soldier had died on Thursday morning in a blast in Sangin. The MoD, which said the soldier's next of kin had been informed, paid tribute to the fallen soldier.

"It is with deep sorrow I must inform you that a British soldier, one of our own, was killed this morning," said Lieutenant Colonel David Wakefield, spokesman for Taskforce Helmand. "A fellow soldier taken from us in this conflict; his sacrifice will not be forgotten." The UK death-toll in Afghanistan now stands at 230 following Tuesday's bloody incident and yesterday's explosion.
