Rihanna breaks silence about Chris Brown attack

Grammy-winning singer Rihanna has spoken publicly for the first time about the night she was assaulted by former boyfriend Chris Brown. Speaking to Good Morning America host Diane Sawyer, in an interview that will be aired on Thursday and Friday this week, the Umbrella singer describes fellow pop singer Brown as "my first big love". In August Brown was sentenced to five years' probation, six months of community service and one year of domestic violence counselling, having pleaded guilty to felony assault over the February incident.
Police documents leaked after the attack, which occurred on the night of the Grammy awards, alleged that after Rihanna read out a text message from another woman on Brown's mobile phone, he punched and bit her and deliberately banged her head against the car window. A photograph later leaked showed the extent of Rihanna's injuries after the incident, with the Barbadian singer's face severely bruised and battered. In her first public comments since the attack, Rihanna told Sawyer in this week's interview: "This happened to me... it can happen to anyone."
The interview coincides with the release of her new single Russian Roulette, ahead of her new album Rated R's November 23rd release.
