DiCaprio and Scott heading for a Brave New World

Ridley Scott is joining forces with Leonardo DiCaprio to take dystopian classic Brave New World to the big screen. The Blade Runner director is to produce the project for Universal, with plans to direct, while DiCaprio could star in the futuristic tale, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Scott has long discussed his interest in the project and now with Apocalypto writer Farhad Safinia recruited to adapt Aldous Huxley's original novel, a Brave New World film is looking increasingly likely.
Written by Huxley in 1931, the book tells of a 26th century society which has achieved apparent harmony through controlled breeding and societal classification. The novel's protagonist, Bernard, is a psychologist and lower-caste member of the society who develops an infatuation with the well-liked Lenina and attempts to impress her on a trip to the undeveloped Savage Reservation. The pair discover John, the son of a former member of the strict World State society, who had been exiled to the reservation and take him back to London as a celebrity.
Though Scott is not yet confirmed to direct, his landmark direction of Blade Runner, based on Philip K Dick's dystopian novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, confirmed the Alien helmer is well suited to the project. DiCaprio, meanwhile, is not attached to any projects after Christopher Nolan's upcoming thriller Inception and would most likely play Bernard should Brave New World go into production.
