Fearne Cotton takes over Radio 1 weekday show

Presenter Fearne Cotton is to take over Jo Whiley's weekday morning show on Radio 1, it has been announced. As part of a significant shake-up of the station's schedules, Cotton will present the 10am to 12:45 BST slot between Monday and Friday, with Whiley moving to weekend afternoons. Greg James, who currently presents the early breakfast show, will move to the 1-4pm weekday slot in place of Edith Bowman, with the Scot moving to the 7-10am weekend breakfast show.
Following the announcement, Cotton commented: "I love being at Radio 1 and taking on a weekday show is a dream come true. "Jo [Whiley] is leaving very big shoes for me to fill and it's nerve-wracking. She has been a massive inspiration to me throughout my career so I have a high standard to live up to.
"The live music legacy will live on in the new show," she added, in reference to the regular Live Lounge section of Whiley's show. Whiley, who has presented the weekday morning show for eight years, said she was looking forward to a different challenge. "The prospect of lie-ins, taking my kids to school and doing something new is, I confess, rather exciting," she continued.
"I will, of course, be taking the keys to the Live Lounge with me to my new weekend show so the live music will continue but I'll be leaving behind a spare set for Fearne. "I think she's fantastic and I couldn't leave the show in a better pair of hands." Scott Mills will remain in the 4-7pm weekday slot, while Dev is moving from the weekend breakfast show to the 4-6:30am early breakfast slot.

I'm so pleased Jo is moving off weekdays, unfortunately I'm not old enough to remember cutting-edge Jo only whining Whiley. Not sure Fearne will be that much better to listen too.
