Favreau sheds light on Iron Man 2 heroes and villains

Director Jon Favreau has revealed Iron Man 2 will see Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) grappling with the responsibilities of super-heroism. The Swingers star and filmmaker has posted regular updates from the set of the comic book sequel on microblogging site Twitter and recently confirmed the shoot is now at the halfway stage. Speaking to Empire, Favreau shed some light on the possible plot line for Iron Man 2, with billionaire industrialist Stark having revealed he was the metal-headed superhero at the climax of the 2008 smash hit.
"Tony's expected to be a role model and I don't think he's ready to be one," Favreau explained. "He's under a great deal of pressure and when you're under pressure, I think you find outlets for that," he added, in a possible reference to the character's alcoholism explored in the Marvel comic book series. "That's one of the tensions of the film: it's one thing to say you're Iron Man, and another thing to actually become Iron Man."
The Marvel Studios sequel sees Downey Jr returning as Stark, with Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard as Stark's friend and confidant Jim Rhodes. Scarlett Johansson is to play temptress Black Widow, with Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke as the villainous Whiplash and Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer. Iron May 2 is released on May 7th 2010.
