Bonkers stays top of UK charts
Dizzee Rascal has secured a second week at the top of the UK singles chart with his most recent hit Bonkers staving off competition from two new entries this week. The UK rap artist kept his spot ahead of the Black Eyed Peas' new single, Boom Boom Pow, and a new entry from Swedish singer Agnes entitled Release Me. Boyle planning album release
Britain's Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle has confirmed she is still planning to release an album, despite missing out on the £100,000 prize in the reality show. The West Lothian native, who has courted worldwide fame since wowing judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan on the talent show, lost out to Essex dance troupe Diversity on last night's show. Cancer sufferer wins big after betting he will live
A man suffering from cancer who was given no more than two years to live is set to scoop £5,000 after betting on himself to survive until June. Jon Matthews, from Milton Keynes, will pick up his winning cheque from bookmakers William Hill tomorrow (June 1st) after placing a wager on his continued survival this time last year. Diversity win Britain's Got Talent final
Diversity have won the final of the 2009 series of Britain's Got Talent and the chance of a starring role at the Royal Variety Performance. A massive audience tuned into the ITV1 show to see the Essex dancers win £100,000 and follow in the footsteps of former winners Paul Potts and George Sampson. Dance troupe Diversity, saxophonist Julian Smith and singer Susan Boyle were named in the top three after the live final on Saturday evening but it was the dance troupe that took the win. Leno bids farewell to Tonight
US comedian Jay Leno has hosted his final Tonight Show on American television after 17 years as the presenter. The 59-year-old, who is a renowned work-a-holic, took the decision to step down a few weeks ago following a health scare in which he was taken to hospital and forced to miss his first day of work in several years. Fern and Phil voted happiest celebrity couple
Television presenter Fern Britton and her chef husband Phil Vickery have been voted the happiest celebrity couple in a new survey. Britton, who will leave ITV1's This Morning in July after ten years on the show, and Vickery topped a poll conducted by smile, the internet bank from the Co-operative Bank. Karen Gillan is announced as new Doctor Who assistant
Young British actress Karen Gillan has been announced as the next assistant in the upcoming series of Doctor Who. Gillan, 21, has already appeared in the popular BBC1 show, having played a soothsayer in The Fires of Pompeii in the 2008 series, and has also appeared in Channel 4's The Kevin Bishop Show. "I am absolutely over the moon at being chosen to play the Doctor's new companion. - I just can't wait to get started," she said after the announcement that she would star alongside Matt Smith, the next actor to play the Time Lord. Susan Boyle favourite for Britain's Got Talent final
Scottish singer Susan Boyle is still the favourite to win tonight's Britain's Got Talent final, despite a tough week of publicity. The church volunteer had been rumoured to be on the brink of quitting the ITV1 show this week after she was said to have lost her temper outside a London hotel when two strangers ridiculed her. The 48-year-old from West Lothian has since been moved to a safe house to relax ahead of the talent show's live final on Saturday but remains the firm favourite to win the £100,000 prize and chance to perform at the Royal Variety performance. Question Time offers apology to Muslim Council of Britain
The BBC One show Question Time has offered to apologise to the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) over remarks made on the show. During the show's shooting on Thursday, the Daily Telegraph's former editor Charles Moore claimed that the body supported protests at homecoming parades of British soldiers. The guest on the show added that the MCB believed that the demonstrations, where protestors hurled abuse at soldiers returning from duty in Afghanistan, were seen as a "good thing" by the organisation. Phil Spector given 19 years over actress murder
Legendary music producer Phil Spector has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson in 2003. The 69-year-old was found guilty during a retrial in April, after his original trial collapsed in 2007 when the jury failed to reach a verdict.
