Buying Rugs

Rugs are really an important part of any household decor. We use them for all sorts of reasons, from wiping our shoes before we enter a home, to drying our feet after getting out of the shower. We have cheap rugs meant to protect the floor underneath, soft rugs for our pets to sleep on, complex and expensive rugs from different countries, and rugs that can double as blankets. There are a lot of options to choose from and rugs to suit all requirements.
There are a lot of different types of rugs used for a lot of different reasons. You can buy, for instance, very intricate hand-woven rugs from Afghanistan and other parts of the Middle East and the famous 'Persian rug' design originally came from, surprise surprise, Persia and modern day Iran. These range from completely authentic and very expensive to some cheaper but still very effective imitations.
Then, of course, there are the purely functional rugs. Shower rugs, greeting rugs, and mud-wiping rugs - think of what you're going to use your rug for. Shower rugs have very fluffy, very loose designs built to absorb water quickly and easily. Front door rugs or dirt rugs, on the other hand, are built with very stiff grains to scrape and scrub dirt off of your boots and shoes with a minimum of trouble.
So, where is the best place to look for rugs? The answer is â€" just about everywhere. You can buy rugs at thrift stores, at department stores, at novelty stores, and at furniture stores, specialist flooring companies and online rug stores. You can buy them at, online auctions, from newspaper ads, or almost anywhere else you might be able to think of. Online auctions can be a great place to pick up a cheap rug if you're careful and do some research, you might even be able to find the very rug you are after for a minimum of actual cost.
So, what type of rug should you choose? Think carefully about the functionality of your rug. If you have pets or children a hardwearing durable rug that is not too light in colour might be the safest choice. Try to co-ordinate your rug so it fits well with your existing furniture and pick a colour that will match well with your existing soft furnishings. A good way of testing size is to mark out with tape or string the outline of the rug you are thinking of buying, this way you will have a good idea of how if will fit in your room before you make a purchase.
